Saginaw CDF Dike Expansion (Summer 2025)
Federal Infrastructure & Remote Marine Logistics
Walsh Service Solutions managed the critical raising of the south perimeter dike at the Saginaw Confined Disposal Facility (CDF). This federal project required complex logistical planning to transport heavy equipment, materials, and personnel to a remote location accessible only by water.
Project Overview
-
Value: $1.3M
-
Timeline: Completed Summer 2025
-
Location: Saginaw Bay, Michigan (Remote Site)
-
Contract Focus: Perimeter Dike Raising & Infrastructure Support
Project Scope & Key Challenges
-
Remote Marine Logistics: Successfully executed the barging of all heavy equipment, materials, and personnel to the remote CDF site, maintaining a seamless supply chain over water.
-
Site Preparation: Performed comprehensive clearing and grubbing of all brush and vegetation within the dike construction limits and designated material borrow areas.
-
Structural Earthwork: Compacted and graded the raised south dike to a precise 3:1 slope, ensuring long-term structural integrity and erosion control.
-
Water Management: Installed a 100-foot, 12-inch culvert adjacent to the existing weir to manage water flow and drainage within the facility.
The Result
Despite the challenges of a water-access-only site, WSS delivered a reinforced perimeter system that increases the facility’s capacity and secures it against future environmental pressures. The project was completed on schedule, proving our ability to synchronize civil engineering with complex marine transport.
