Marine Construction – Buffalo (Summer 2022)

Walsh Service Solutions, in a strategic partnership with Ryba Marine, executed a high-precision federal breakwater and shoreline protection project in Buffalo, New York. This operation required complex multi-state logistics and the systematic placement of heavy armor stone to reinforce critical maritime infrastructure against Lake Erie’s high-energy wave environments.

Project Scope & Operations

• Multi-Layer Stone Placement: Executed the systematic installation of a three-tier protection system, including bedding stone, underlayer stone, and heavy armor stone, in strict adherence to federal engineering specifications.

• Complex Supply Chain Logistics: Coordinated the specialized rail transportation of all stone materials from quarries in Vermont to the Buffalo waterfront, ensuring a continuous supply chain to meet aggressive production windows.

• Stone Materials Control Plan (SMCP): Developed and managed a comprehensive control plan to track material gradation, density, and placement precision, ensuring 100% compliance with rigorous federal quality standards.

• Precision Marine Engineering: Utilized GPS-guided marine equipment to place 12,667 tons of armor stone, creating a stable and durable barrier designed to withstand extreme Great Lakes weather cycles.

The Result

The project was completed during the Summer 2022 season, significantly enhancing the structural resilience of Buffalo’s federal maritime assets. By effectively managing the logistics of over 16,000 tons of material across state lines and maintaining precise placement tolerances, Walsh Service Solutions provided a long-term solution for shoreline erosion and infrastructure protection.
