Marine Construction – Cleveland (Summer 2022)

Project Value: $5.98M
Timeline: Summer 2025
Location: Cleveland, Ohio (Cuyahoga River)
Key Metrics: 250,000 cubic yards of sediment removed

Walsh Service Solutions, in collaboration with Ryba Marine, executed a large-scale federal mechanical maintenance dredging project along the Upper and Lower Cuyahoga River. This mission-critical maritime operation focused on restoring navigable depths and managing sediment transport to support the vital commercial shipping lanes of Cleveland’s industrial waterfront.

Project Scope & Operations

  • Mechanical Dredging: Deployed specialized marine equipment to perform precision dredging across the Upper and Lower reaches of the Cuyahoga River, clearing 250,000 cubic yards of accumulated silt and debris.

  • Hydraulic Unloading: Facilitated the efficient transfer of material by hydraulically unloading scows at a designated, privately managed spoils area, ensuring streamlined waste management and site logistics.

  • Subsurface Surveys: Performed rigorous pre- and post-dredge surveys to accurately quantify sediment volumes and confirm that all riverbed elevations met strict federal navigational specifications.

  • Strategic Partnership: Successfully teamed with Ryba Marine to integrate specialized maritime assets and personnel, ensuring high-capacity production within the Summer 2025 window.

The Result

The project was completed on schedule, significantly improving the navigational safety and efficiency of the Cuyahoga River. By removing a quarter-million cubic yards of sediment and utilizing a sophisticated hydraulic disposal process, the Walsh Service Solutions-Ryba team ensured the long-term viability of Cleveland’s maritime infrastructure while meeting all federal compliance and environmental standards.
